Video Marketing is Essential – How To Overcome Your Fear of Videos

How To Overcome Your Fear of Doing Videos! (1)

Tips to Overcome your Fear of Cameras and Videos

Although there are many articles, blogs and, yes, videos, on how to use videos to grow your business, for many people, there are some basics that you need to get PAST before you can get started.

First of all, medical experts agree that camera shyness is a very real phenomena.  The fear of getting photographed has to do with the fear of being judged by others.  This type of phobia exists in all kinds of people, so if you have this issue, don’t feel alone!  The thing is, this is one of those things that will only get better if you just start doing it.  I know that sounds kind of heartless, but I certainly don’t mean for it to!

Here are a few tips to get over shyness in front of the camera:

  1. Take selfies and see what angles, lighting and colors work the best for you.
  2. Remind yourself that it is perfectly normal to have this fear of being on camera and you are NOT alone!
  3. Have people who you are close to take the first few videos of you – this will help you feel more comfortable.
  4. Practice makes perfect!  Start videoing yourself every day.  This is one thing that will absolutely get better with practice and time!
  5. Smile – don’t worry if every word isn’t perfect!  It is much better to be natural even with mistakes!

You can’t please everyone all of the time!

If you are worried about what people will think of you – STOP already!  Ask yourself this one question:  Is that person (the one who you are worried about pleasing) paying your bills?  This should put a quick stop to your concern!  However – here are a few tips you can use to get over worrying about what others think:

  1. Think about WHO you are worried about?  Does that person have any power over you?  Probably not!
  2. Try to identify why you are worried about what people think.  If it is the person’s opinion of you that you are concerned about, you probably have a tendency to always want to please people.  Possibly this has been a winning strategy for you in the past.  However, you are paying a high price for their attitude if you let that rule your life.  There really isn’t anything you can do about their attitude anyway!  It will serve you much better if you make your choices based on what is best for YOU!
  3. Keep in mind that you cannot control what others think of you.  They will view and “grade” you based on their life choices, other people they know and prior experiences they have had.  Why should  any of those things control you?  Why should you live your life in the shadow of what others think?

Practice Daily Self-Love and Acceptance

Worrying about what others think usually means that you have a belief that others are better than you.  You put others’ needs above your own.  From this day forward – start each day by recognizing that you are a worthy person and equal to every other person on Earth!  Use positive affirmations – repeat them to yourself OUT LOUD every day.  Here are a few great positive affirmations:

  • It matters little what others say.  What matters is how I react and what I believe.
  • I love and accept myself unconditionally.
  • I am a well loved and well respected person.
  • I have high self esteem as I respect myself.
